SYNOPSIS...HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD OVER THE BEAUFORT SEA THROUGH
WEDNESDAY. A DEVELOPING ARCTIC LOW WILL DROP INTO THE CENTRAL
BEAUFORT SEA FRIDAY AND SATURDAY.

THE ICE EDGE LIES FROM THE SOUTHWEST COAST OF BANKS ISLAND TO 70.9N
133.2W TO 70.5N 139.7W TO 71.6N 145.6W TO 72.7N 145.8W TO 73.1N
139.8W TO 75.4N 143.5W TO 76.5N 156.1W TO 77.5N 166.7W TO 74.5N
172.4W TO 74.2N 176E AND CONTINUES WEST. THE EDGE EAST OF 175W IS 1
TO 6 TENTHS FIRST YEAR AND OLD ICE. THE EDGE WEST OF 175W IN OUR
ANALYSIS AREA IS OPEN WATER.

2 TO 4 TENTHS FIRST YEAR AND OLD ICE LIES BETWEEN 73N AND 74N FROM
163W TO 168W.

FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY...MUCH COLDER AIR WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE
BEAUFORT SEA AFTER WEDNESDAY. NEW ICE WILL DEVELOP IN MUCH OF THE ICE
FREE WATERS BETWEEN 140W AND 155W WHERE SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES ARE
1C OR LESS. ICE WILL DEVELOP ALONG THE ALASKA BARRIER ISLANDS ALONG
THE NORTHWEST AND NORTH COASTS NORTH OF 70N.

A NOTE ON THE ICE FORECAST...SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES ALONG THE
ALASKA CHUKCHI AND BEAUFORT SEA COASTS ARE 2 TO 8 DEGREES CELSIUS
COLDER THIS YEAR THAN AT THE SAME TIME LAST YEAR. SEA ICE IN THESE
AREAS IS AT OR VERY NEAR THE SEASONAL MINIMUM. SIGNIFICANT ICE WILL
BEGIN DEVELOPING ALONG THE ALASKA COAST NORTH OF 70N WITHIN THE NEXT
10 TO 14 DAYS.
